Frosts Ladies Day Preview

Wed, Aug 6, 2014

Brighton Racecourse host the second day of their August Festival of Racing tomorrow, Frosts Ladies Day, with the first of seven races due off at 14.20. A third of days' entries are previous course winners, so this looks set to be another exciting afternoon of racing.

Leading course trainer, John Bridger is represented by three runners, and he will be hoping to extend his lead in the Porsche Centre Mid-Sussex Owners Series with Fairy Mist in the Howard Education Ltd Selling Handicap. The Oratorio filly has already won twice at Brighton this year under William Carson, who will take the ride again tomorrow. Bridger also sends out the 13-year-old veteran Megalala in the On Your Mobile Lady Amateur Riders' Handicap, where he takes on another previous course and distance winner in the form of Gabriel the Terror, who ran well when second at Brighton last time out.

The feature race of the afternoon, the Brighton Challenge Cup, has attracted a maximum field of 14 runners, with a number of serious contenders: Shaun Harris' El Bravo carries a 6 pound excess for his win at Pontefract last time out, but with 3 pound claimer Neil Farley on board, could go close again. Top weight Compton Bird also won convincingly last time out at Epsom and takes her chance under Andrea Atzeni. Gates open at 12noon tomorrow and tickets are available from £15 if booked by 3pm today on 01273 603580.
