Plus 10 set for strong presence at Doncaster

Mon, Aug 25, 2014

New British and Irish owners' and breeders' bonus scheme Plus 10 will have a strong presence at the first major yearling sale of 2014 when Doncaster Bloodstock Sales (DBS) holds the Premier and Silver Yearling Sales on 26-28 August.

Launched last month, Plus 10 has already amassed more than 3,300 foal and yearling registrations and is now gearing up for a significant presence at the first major British bloodstock sale since its launch.

Of the 502 Premier and 137 Silver lots to be sold over the three days of the sales, a total 345 horses have been registered for Plus 10 and a further 285 are eligible for the scheme, but not yet registered.*

Plus 10 is a £5.5 million bonus scheme which will see eligible two and three-year-old horses race for £10,000 bonuses across more than 550 races.

For a horse to be eligible, it must be paid up across three registration stages - Foal, Yearling and Owner. The payers of the Foal and Yearling Registration fees will receive 10% of the £10,000 bonus each, with the payer of the third fee to receive 75% of the bonus. The remaining 5% will be paid out to the stable staff, trainer and jockey associated with the winning horse.

Plus 10 Committee Chairman, Julian Richmond-Watson, acknowledged those British and Irish breeders and consignors who had supported the scheme to date and wished them the best of luck at Doncaster.

"We have been extremely pleased with the take-up from breeders and those consigning at upcoming bloodstock sales and we would like to thank everyone for their support," Mr Richmond-Watson said.

"Plus 10 offers an attractive financial incentive to new owners to support British and Irish bred bloodstock and to race horses locally and we look forward to this being evidenced within the sales ring when the first Plus 10 registered horses go under the hammer.

"We also look forward to working with Doncaster Bloodstock Sales and wish all involved next week a favourable result."

DBS Managing Director Henry Beeby said the signs were promising for an outstanding three days of sales. "We greatly welcome the introduction of Plus 10 as an amalgamation of the Racing Post Yearling Bonus Scheme and BOBIS and applaud the efforts of everyone involved in bringing the two schemes together. Plus 10 offers a powerful incentive to buyers, especially at sales such as the DBS Premier and Silver Yearling Sales where the focus is on two year old success. These are the horses that are most likely to benefit from a £10,000 bonus when they win."

The 345 registered Plus 10 horses will be clearly visible in the sales ring, with Yearling Registered horses featuring yellow rump stickers and stable door cards and Foal Registered horses featuring light blue rump cards and stable door cards.

Plus 10 will be in attendance across the pre-sale inspection and sale days and encourages salesgoers to visit its stall in the Premier Pavilion.
