One week left to register horses for Plus 10 bonus scheme

Mon, Sep 22, 2014

There is just one week left to register eligible horses for the Plus 10 bonus scheme as the first major deadline approaches.

Eligible 2013 and 2014 born foals must be registered by 30 September to remain a part of the scheme which will see £5.5 million of bonuses paid out to qualified two and three-year-old horses from 2015.

Named for its £10,000 bonuses (€12,500), Plus 10 offers a rich incentive to breed and race horses in Ireland and Britain. Once fully operational the scheme will offer bonuses on more than 550 two and three-year-old races.

Irish breeder, Ciaran 'Flash' Conroy of Glenvale Stud, County Tipperary, has backed the scheme and registered more than 50 yearlings.

"Anything that's good for prize money, people in our business have to support," Mr Conroy said.

Specialist pinhooker, Jamie Railton, of Newmarket, described the scheme as extremely important to owners who race horses outside Listed level.

"My view is it's a necessary scheme for the majority of owners where some return on your capital outlay is important."
Breeders and consignors at upcoming sales are reminded there are no retrospective payments for Plus 10 and all eligible horses must be registered before 30 September to remain a part of the scheme.

A sale proceeds offer is available to breeders and consignors who pay the first Foal Registration fee. To view more information about this offer, the three registration stages, a horse's eligibility.
