Race Meeting Report - 6 May 2015

Wed, May 6, 2015

The continuing very strong winds had dried the ground out since yesterday and it now rode good to firm.

Three of the four in the opener, a five furlong two-year-old maiden, fought out the finish. Victory went to the one with course experience, Fast Gold (2/1), who hit the front with a hundred yards to go. Shane Kelly was riding one of two entries from the Marcus Tregoning stable. He finished three quarters of a length ahead of Comedy Night.

The second race was a 6f handicap. Flexible Flyer (9/4 fav) fought out the finish with Heartsong, pulling clear of the rest and hanging on by a short head. It was a particularly creditable effort as the horse started slowly, its hood still being on when the stalls opened. John Egan enhanced his excellent recent record aboard the Chris Dwyer-trained sprinter.

The rest of the meeting was abandoned due to the weather. The high winds were lifting and moving the protective mats laid down across roads where they cross the track. To gallop over a moving surface with tarmac potentially exposed would greatly increase the risk of a horse falling.
