Royal Visit

Thu, Mar 8, 2007

Brighton Racecourse and Conference Centre today welcomed its most important guests of the year.

The venue was honoured to host a luncheon for HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, as part of their visit to Brighton and Hove.

Matt Hudson, General Manager, said: "The team have been overwhelmed with pride and we have been working on today's event for months. The venue looked immaculate as anything that doesn't move has been painted and polished".

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness enjoyed a meal that was entirely sourced in Sussex as per the Palaces instructions and were given a tour of the racecourse by Simon Clarke, Northern Racings Deputy Chairman.

The lunch was attended by 60 local guests including the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, the Mayor of the City of Brighton and Hove and the Chief Executive of Brighton and Hove City Council.

Her Majesty's last visit to the Racecourse was in 1979, after she had officially opened Brighton Marina. She stayed for one race, the Portslade Stakes, which her filly Alesia had won in 1958. Her Majesty's last winner at the course was Hunting Tower on the 19th of October 2006.
