What's happening at Brighton

15,000 people are expected to descend on Brighton when the annual August Festival comes to Brighton Racecourse.

The three-day festival runs from Wednesday 3rd to Friday 5th August and attracts visitors from across the country, with the eyes of fashionistas fixed firmly on Thursday's Ladies Day. It's the perfect excuse to get dressed up and wear a hat or fascinator that would have been worthy of an appearance at the Royal Wedding.

A Lady Gaga tribute act will entertain Brighton's glammed up girls on Ladies Day before racing begins, with all the star's much-loved hits, and there are great prizes on offer for the best dressed, including a spa weekend at the Alexander Hotel, a Jaguar convertible to drive for the weekend and £500 worth of clothes from Ted Baker. So be sure to dress to impress!

The racing elite will be out on Wednesday [3rd August] as the racecourse stages its most valuable race of the year, the John Smith's Mile and there will be entertainment from Channel 4's Derek Thompson and music from a Meatloaf tribute act. While Friday [5th August] will see former Brighton & Hove Albion players meeting race-goers and signing autographs, as well as a penalty shoot-out competition on the track and a Blues Brothers act on stage.

General Manager of Brighton Racecourse, Callum Mackay said: "The August Festival is the highlight of the year at the racecourse. We've got three days packed full of activity and attractions to provide something for everyone to enjoy, no matter your level of interest in racing as a sport.

"The races have been in the media a lot this year, with the increased attention on the Royal Family helping to draw attention to 'the sport of kings' as it's known, and The Queen's own horse winning one of the biggest races in the country at Epsom. Brighton's racecourse is at the heart of the city centre and I hope the festival will encourage people who haven't been racing before to come and experience it."

Tickets are priced from £12 in advance. Group discounts are available. The special Champagne Charlie package includes four Premier badges, and a bottle of champagne for £105, while the Pimms For A Pair package includes two Premier badges and a jug of PIMM'S for £49.
