What's happening at Brighton

Race Meeting Report - June 19th

Tue, Jun 19, 2012

Brighton's second Tuesday evening meeting in a row took place in much brighter conditions than the first. The going was generally good to firm.

Simple Rhythm made most of the running in the opening sprint. Festival Dance (5/2 favourite) took it up over a furlong out and held on from the fast-finishing Autocracy in a race that few got into.

The odds-on favourite was never going in the two year old race, won by the front-running Buy Art (7/1) for Gary Moore. Kicken Off was second for the second week in a row.

Whiteoak Lady sprang a 20/1 surprise in the six furlong handicap, from being boxed in and under pressure to weave her way through to pip Bermondsey Bob on the post.

In a wide open fifteen-runner mile and a quarter handicap, Renegotiate (9/2) took it up a furlong out and went a couple of lengths clear. The outsider Hollywood All Stars came out of the pack to get within three quarters of a length at the post.

The recent impressive winner Toga Tiger (7/4 favourite) followed up in the mile handicap. Always going well, a nice gap opened up on the rails, and he forged clear to win by four and a half lengths in a good time, giving every indication his winning streak has not finished yet.

Mickael Barzalona's visit to Brighton was made worthwhile when one of Godolphin's lesser lights, Zaeem (11/4) won the next, another to get a clear run up the rail and go three lengths clear without much effort. Eased heavily, the official winning margin of half a length flatters the second, Good Luck Charm.

The 6/5f favourite Clear Spring did his chance no good by rearing in the stalls while Comadoir (10/1) made all under apprentice Nathan Sweeney. Three lengths up at halfway, he stuck to the favoured inside rail and nothing else seriously threatened.
