Three Day Festival This Week

Mon, Aug 6, 2012

Around 15,000 people are expected to attend this week's three-day racing festival at Brighton Racecourse. The meeting runs from Wednesday to Friday and is the highlight of the season at the Sussex course. It forms part of 'Sussex Fortnight' and follows last week's meeting at Glorious Goodwood.

The opening day highlight is the John Smith's Brighton Mile with prize money of £15,000. A maximum field of 16 has been declared including last year's runner-up Green Earth. Among the leading jockeys in action at the meeting are Richard Hughes, Seb Sanders, Jim Crowley, Darryll Holland and Tom Queally, the rider of Frankel.

Day two on Thursday is the increasingly popular Ladies Day when there is a cash prize of £2000 on offer for the Best Dressed Lady competition. The feature race is the £15,000 Brighton Challenge Cup. The big race on Friday is the £10,000 Talk to Victor Brighton Bullet over the minimum trip of five furlongs.

The gates open at 12 noon every day and admission starts from £20 on the gate. There is a £5 discount for booking in advance.
