City College builds a winning partnership with Stable Yard Project!

Carpentry and Joinery students from City College Brighton and Hove were presented with brand new tools from Brighton Tools & Fixings at Brighton Racecourse to launch the Stable Yard Project, which could be the first of its kind in the country.

The young team at City College will redesign, project manage and subsequently build a new internal structure to update the existing accommodation for stable lads and lasses. This will provide them with a modern and welcoming space to stay after travelling long distances for race days.

Brighton Racecourse has consulted with a number of governing bodies on the project which will undergo several stages, in order to meet the highest of standards. The project also provides practical, hands-on training for all the students involved.

Pete Bentman of Brighton Tools & Fixings presented the equipment, including donations from Hitachi Power Tools and Draper hand tools.

Director of Building Trades Michael Buckman and Team Leader Tom Dowds were on hand at the presentation, along with General Manager of Brighton Racecourse Stuart Dorn.

Stuart Dorn said ‘We are delighted to welcome City College and the generous sponsors who have donated tools to the project. The Stable Yard Project is a fantastic venture unique to our industry, which will reflect the importance we give to the owners, the trainers and caring for their teams when they are here at Brighton Racecourse, as well as our City partnerships. We wish the talented City College team all the best as the project gets underway'.
