A short (steep) drive from Brighton city centre, Brighton Racecourse is just ¼ mile from the coast and one of the highest racecourses in the country. There are numerous ways to get here - when we asked Mike Parcej, a friend of the racecourse and passionate horse racing fan, here's what he had to say:
"One of the steepest hills to a UK racecourse from the city centre on foot!! There is an excellent No 2 bus service however from Stop H in Churchill Square that is the service to Rottingdean. The stop to alight at is Pankhurst Avenue. Buses run once every 20 minutes, 30 minutes on Sundays."
By Road
Brighton Racecourse is easy to reach from the A27 Brighton bypass. If you are approaching Brighton on the A23 you need to go east on the A27. Head for signs directing you to Sussex University and take the B2123 to Woodingdean, turn right at the traffic lights and the Racecourse is approximately one mile on your left-hand side.
This is the recommended route to avoid traffic congestion through the city centre, however the Racecourse is well sign-posted if you choose to enter central Brighton on the A23.
If you're coming from the seafront head for the Brighton Palace Pier before driving eastbound along Marine Parade. Turn left at the first set of lights into Lower Rock Gardens. Turn right at the second set of lights into Edward Street, then first left into Freshfield Road. The Racecourse is at the top of the hill.
Car parking at Brighton Racecourse is free.
By Bus
There are two public buses which run from Brighton City Centre, the No. 2 and No. 22. Both buses pick up outside the Churchill Shopping Centre at Stop H and stop outside Brighton Racecourse at the Race Hill stop. The Churchill Square Shopping Centre is a 10-minute walk from Brighton Railway Station. Please note, there is no longer a courtesy bus available on racedays. Please note, there will be a courtesy shuttle bus running from Brighton Railway Station to the Racecourse during Brighton's Festival of Racing.
