On the day that Brighton Racecourse renamed its Winning Connections the ‘Pour La Victoire Suite’ it was written in the stars that Brighton favourite would add to his total number of wins at the seaside course, making it 11 in total.
On his 36th start at Brighton and his 121st overall, the 11-year-old rolled back the years to beat Mr Moneypenny who was a 100-1 shot by a length and three-quarters.
All his wins have come under Brighton’s top trainer, Tony Carroll under whose care he has been since 2013. Pour La Victoire is a certainly a yard favourite at Carroll’s yard in Worcestershire.
Owners Darren Blake and James Lawrence said to Sky Sports Racing, “It’s a speechless moment, it’s a day you dream of! Did it really happen, really? In that style good old Pour La Victoire style, just coasting round coming through and doing what he does. When he is happy, he gets on and does it.
Trainer, Tony Carroll said: “He’s just lovely and an incredible character. We’ve had a lot of fun with him and he loves this place.”
Pour La Victoire’s owners confirmed after the race that this would be his last and that he would return to Tony Caroll’s yard for retirement.
The race came on day one of the three-day Brighton Festival, which continues on Thursday and Friday 5 and 6 August.
