4th August 2025 – This Wednesday sees the start of the three-day Star Sports Brighton Festival Of Racing with over 60 runners declared to race on the opening day of the meeting at the South Coast track.
There is over £175,000 worth of prize money on offer across the meeting with the feature race worth £20,000 each day. 12 horses have been declared for this Wednesday’s feature, the Sapporo Japanese Premium Lager Brighton Mile Challenge Handicap, which takes place at 3:45pm.
Seven-time course-and-distance winner Uncle Dick, who is trained by Eve Johnson-Houghton, will bid to repeat his surprise win in this 1m contest last year for connections.
Ladies Day takes place on Thursday, while the action culminates on Friday with another six-race card.
One trainer who is sure to support the meeting heavily is local Gary Moore. He said: I lived there for fifty years, and you get a lot of characters there at that meeting. The racing is pretty good , the standard is not too bad, it’s my hometown and I have enjoyed going there since I was old enough to go there.”
He added: “I hold lots of memories from growing up there, the changes are amazing to the place what they’ve done. It’s a whole different area there now than when I lived there.”
Racing gets underway at 2:15pm with the Star Sports We Believe In Bookmaking Handicap with the action set to conclude at 2:45pm. The ground is currently described as Good.
Gates open at 12:25pm on Wednesday with the Ultraswing Roaming Band set to start at the same time.
